am i a nerd?

in light of my last post about my library books... i'm wondering if i am a nerd?
i'm so engrossed in my book about scientific gender differences! i can't help but share facts i have learned about all sorts of things with people... sometimes even strangers. do jr. high categories of nerdiness still exist... if people do still think in those terms, haven't they realized the correlation between nerdiness and interesting, fun, well spoken, intentional, creative(and maybe even financially rewarded) people? i don't know... i'm really just venting a little b/c some one's off hand comment about my tendency to research made me feel insecure about being a dork... now how ridiculous is that? (that's not rhetorical-- i need some encouragement here)

hi Jane...not a nerd at all:) I love to read and have read your sleep book front to back, plus that super baby food book. I think it's a mom thing, maybe? Anyway...not a nerd. And, we--Scott, me, and Ada--will be at Elisha's party!! Can't wait and CANNOT believe he is one already. I have that image of him in your arms the first time I saw him. So tiny and so much hair.

yes in deed-- soooo much hair!
unlike now... i took him to get his hair cut(for the fifth time, mind you)and somehow it wound up shorter than when he was born!

No, indeed...knowledge is power!

Oh, I kind of want someone to call me a nerd. I always have grand plans to read deep and brainy books, but I always end up curled up with a novel (or in the evenings, perhaps watching a movie). The gender book does sound facinating. I'd ask to borrow it, but I'd probably end up using it as a coaster for my milkshake while I watch Becoming Jane for the 5th time.

PS - and you're not a nerd

PPS - and this doesn't mean I've NOT been called a nerd, it's just been for more embarassing reasons (like high-water pants in high-school)

Funny! I just realized that the movie on my mind was Becoming Jane (Austin) and that I was, in fact, talking to a Jane. See ... maybe subconsciously I want to become you. :-)

Don't you dare speak as if being a nerd is a bad thing!! In fact, nerds are in all ways superior human beings... this, from your sister who will die if she doesn't successfully receive her PhD. Don't you know you come by the desire to research honestly? Remember that you have a mother who spends two hours each night reading obscure books about the Civil War and a father who knows everything there is to know about the various kinds of grass that grow throughout the South. My opinion is that perhaps your natural inclination towards nerdiness is in fact making itself known... and this is in every way a good thing!! (And I want you to be able to share all your knowledge with me... gender differences is one of the my favorite topics!)

Christy you are indeed a huge nerd...

Jane you are to - and so am I.

Acceptance is the answer to all our problems today....(you'd have to be in a 12 step program to find that funny)

If you weren't a nerd - I would NOT be your friend - I just don't like normal people....

So hey - I'm a big perk - right?

I'm worried I'm the "someone"! I stumbled across your blog looking for your slings.... anyway, I said what I did b/c I'm so impressed with all the baby research you've done and it reminds me that I should be doing more myself instead of just reading novels all the time! Besides, I'm sure I'm much more of a nerd than you. ;) I've really enjoyed getting to know you and Elisha and am looking forward to lots of fun play dates in the future!

megan and christy- y'all will have to recommend some novels... i keep rereading my favorites and i need to venture out!

amy - that is so awesome! made my day!
(a tip for use- pull the fabric higher up on his back and tighten the top edge a lot more and then he will be more secure... it must be a boy thing- elisha will decide that it would be fun to dive out sometimes too!)
